Residents of a community in Sokoto State staged a protest after suspected bandits launched fresh attacks, prompting demonstrators to block a major highway in anger over the worsening security situation.
The protesters, made up of youths, community leaders, and other residents, accused authorities of failing to protect lives and property despite repeated attacks in the area. The highway blockade caused traffic disruptions as commuters and motorists were stranded for several hours.
According to local sources, the latest bandit assault resulted in casualties and the destruction of property, further heightening fear among residents. Many protesters carried placards and demanded urgent intervention from the federal and state governments to restore security.
Security personnel were later deployed to the area to maintain order and engage with community representatives. Officials appealed for calm while assuring residents that measures were being intensified to tackle criminal activities and prevent further attacks.
The protest underscores growing frustration among communities affected by banditry across northern Nigeria, where repeated attacks have displaced families, disrupted economic activities, and claimed numerous lives. Residents are calling for sustained military operations, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger security presence to bring lasting peace to the region.
