The Nigeria Police Force has announced a nationwide crackdown on vehicles operating with unregistered, concealed, altered, or illegal number plates, warning that offenders will face prosecution in accordance with existing traffic and security regulations.
The directive, which forms part of broader efforts to strengthen national security and improve crime prevention, was issued following concerns that criminals increasingly use vehicles with fake or obscured registration plates to evade detection during criminal operations.
According to police authorities, all vehicle owners are required to ensure that their number plates are properly registered, clearly visible, and issued by the appropriate government agencies. Security officials noted that vehicles with covered, defaced, or unauthorized plates pose significant challenges to law enforcement agencies in tracking criminal activities and enforcing traffic laws.
