The Anambra State Government has intensified its crackdown on child exploitation, arresting six suspects and rescuing 29 children during a coordinated enforcement operation aimed at protecting vulnerable minors.
State officials disclosed that the operation targeted individuals allegedly involved in exploiting children through forced labour, street begging, and other forms of abuse. The rescued children have since been taken into protective custody, where they are receiving medical attention, counseling, and other welfare support.
Authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that some of the children had been subjected to harsh living conditions and denied access to basic education and proper care. The government emphasized that safeguarding the rights and welfare of children remains a top priority.
The six suspects are expected to face prosecution in accordance with relevant child protection and anti-trafficking laws, while investigations continue to determine whether additional individuals were involved in the alleged exploitation network.
The Anambra State Government urged residents to report cases of child abuse, trafficking, or exploitation to the appropriate authorities, stressing that community cooperation is essential in protecting children from abuse.
