DSS, Foreign Observers To Monitor NBA Election As President Allays Rigging Fears

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced that officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) and foreign observers will monitor its forthcoming national elections in a move aimed at strengthening transparency and boosting confidence in the electoral process.

The decision comes amid growing concerns from some members of the legal profession over the credibility of the election. However, the NBA President has reassured members that every necessary measure has been put in place to ensure a free, fair, and credible exercise.

Addressing stakeholders, the NBA President dismissed allegations that the election could be manipulated, insisting that the association remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability. According to him, the involvement of independent observers and security agencies is intended to safeguard the process and reassure members that their votes will count.

He explained that the DSS would primarily provide security support and help maintain order throughout the election, while international observers would independently assess the conduct of the exercise and provide objective reports on its fairness.

The NBA leadership also emphasized that the electronic voting system has undergone rigorous testing and security checks to minimize technical challenges and protect against cyber threats or unauthorized interference.

Members have been encouraged to participate actively in the election, with the assurance that the association has implemented adequate safeguards to guarantee transparency and equal opportunities for all candidates.

Several contestants and stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing the presence of both local security agencies and foreign observers as a positive step toward strengthening confidence in the NBA's democratic processes. They expressed hope that the election would set another benchmark for professional bodies in Nigeria.

The NBA election is expected to attract significant attention from legal practitioners across the country, as members prepare to elect leaders who will shape the association's direction and continue advocating for the rule of law, judicial independence, and legal reforms in Nigeria.
