I Won’t Impose Running Mate on Borno APC Governorship Candidate — Zulum. 2027.

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has declared that he will not impose a deputy governorship candidate on whoever emerges as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flag bearer for the 2027 general elections.

The governor made the assurance while addressing party stakeholders, emphasizing that the selection of a running mate should remain the constitutional responsibility of the party's governorship candidate. According to him, the process must be guided by consultations, fairness, and the overall interest of the APC and the people of Borno State.

Zulum said his administration remains committed to strengthening democratic values within the party by allowing internal processes to function without undue interference. He stressed that leadership should be built on consensus, competence, and respect for party structures rather than personal preferences.

The governor urged party members to remain united and avoid actions capable of creating divisions as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum. He also encouraged aspirants to conduct their campaigns peacefully and place the interests of the state above individual ambitions.

Political analysts believe Zulum's position is intended to reassure party stakeholders that the APC primary process in Borno will be transparent and inclusive. The governor's remarks are also seen as an effort to reduce speculation over his possible influence in determining the party's eventual governorship ticket.

As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, party leaders are expected to intensify consultations aimed at ensuring a smooth transition of leadership while preserving the APC's strong political presence in Borno State. Zulum reiterated that his priority remains delivering good governance to the people of the state while supporting a credible and democratic succession process within the party.
