Enugu Restricts Movement in Six LGAs Ahead of By-Election

The Enugu State Government has announced restrictions on movement in six local government areas ahead of the scheduled by-election, citing the need to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process.

According to state authorities, the restriction will be enforced during voting hours and will affect residents in the affected local government areas. Security agencies have been directed to monitor compliance and maintain law and order throughout the exercise.

Officials said the measure is aimed at preventing disruptions, voter intimidation, and other forms of electoral malpractice that could undermine the integrity of the poll. Essential service providers, including health workers and emergency responders, are expected to be exempt from the restriction upon proper identification.

The by-election is being held to fill vacant political positions in the affected councils, with electoral authorities expressing confidence in the arrangements put in place for a smooth voting process.

Observers say the temporary restriction reflects growing efforts by state governments and security agencies to strengthen election security and boost public confidence in the democratic process.
