Police Commissioner In Katsina Reaffirms Commitment To Safe Schools

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of schools across the state, emphasizing that protecting students, teachers, and educational facilities remains a top priority.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement on school security, the police commissioner said the command is working closely with other security agencies, school authorities, community leaders, and local vigilante groups to strengthen measures aimed at preventing attacks on schools and safeguarding learning environments.

He noted that the Safe Schools Initiative has become increasingly important in light of security challenges affecting some parts of the country. According to him, the police have intensified patrols around schools, enhanced intelligence gathering, and deployed personnel to vulnerable areas to deter criminal activities.

The commissioner assured parents and guardians that security agencies are committed to protecting children and ensuring that education continues without disruption. He added that regular risk assessments are being conducted to identify potential threats and improve response strategies.

He also called on residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities. Community participation, he said, remains critical to achieving lasting security and preventing criminal elements from targeting schools.

Education stakeholders who attended the meeting commended the police for their proactive approach and urged authorities to sustain efforts aimed at creating a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The renewed commitment comes as governments and security agencies across Nigeria continue to implement measures designed to protect schools from threats such as kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities.

Observers believe that stronger collaboration between security agencies, school administrators, and local communities will play a key role in ensuring that schools remain safe havens for students pursuing their education.
